News from Laroussi lake
Dec 2010
New Lake record - 76lb mirror, 1st Dec
Richard Ward & his 6 mates fished Laroussi on w/c 13th November & what a winter session they had, topped by a magnificent 76lb lake record mirror for Richard.
In total the group caught 6 carp (15lb common, 18lb common, 22lb mirror (perfect linear), 33lb mirror, 42lb mirror, 76lb mirror) & 3 sturgeon from 49lb to 60lb.
Over to Richard; "We all went armed with the ever faithful Quest Rahja Spice, but on the advice of Shaun Harrison I also went with 10mm's & that's what I caught the big girl on. I've never really fished with 10mm's before... but I will be from now on, so thank you Shaun!
All my carp came on 10mm's fished at around 140 yards over a very small bed of Medhi's famous parti-mix and a mixture of 10 to 20mm Rahja's.
The weather was cold (down to minus 6 at night!) but the Rahja kept on producing.
Thank you to all at Angling Lines for having such a nice venue on your books and lastly thanks to the carp gods for allowing such a creature to grace my net".

A Dream Session at Laroussi for Chris Evans, 1st Aug
Having had a baby last year I was certain my angling in 2010 would be limited. My wife was keen to get away and have a relaxed week so what could be better than a week by the lake with the odd day out sightseeing and dabbling in the local fare.
I was booking a bit late in the day and most places were full when we could go. However Angling lines mentioned Laroussi, renowned big fish water with a small cabin which had become available for rental. The trip was booked and we were on our way.
We arrived at the lake late on Saturday evening and were royally greeted by the lake's owner Mehdi and his wife Carolyn. The cabin is excellent with a pull down double bed downstairs and a mezzanine floor with two singles. The cabin was spotless and had all the facilities we needed including all the linen, towels and lots of hot water.
There is a large supermarket 10 minutes down the road for all supplies.
The lake is a real gem and if you’re into your feature finding then this is the place to go. Humps, bumps, bars and channels it has them all. You certainly need to find the right spots which I only managed on one rod, the other two rods lying dormant for long periods despite my continual efforts.
As I was on a family holiday I only fished at night, resting the swim during the day definitely helped keep the fish in the area. I used a marker set up to locate spots and then boated baits in the microcat onto those spots.
During the week I did not receive one take from the gravel but seemed to have success in the light silt just off the gravel spots especially on the shallower humps.
I pre-ordered bait from Mehdi which included Quest Baits Rahja Spice boilies and also the Special Crab. Sizes ranged from 10mm up to 20mm. All takes were on 14mm glugged baits tipped with glow in the dark corn. I also had a 25 kilo bucket of Laroussi Partiblend made which was a real stroke as the lads who fished the previous week had all caught well using it. It’s a lovely mix and saved all the hassle of taking it.
Rigs were all fairly simple with short stiff hybrid links on the harder areas and kd rigs on the softer silt incorporating the Rhaja Spice pop ups. Each boat consisted of one handful of seed mix and a good spread of 20-40 boilies of different sizes. Flying back leads were used on all rods.
At 7am each day the fish provided us with their daily exhibition of crashing and it was clear that the water is packed with some real kippers! I was delighted to catch my first 50lb carp in 20 years of chasing and of course like the London buses another came in a matter of days at 52. Brilliant!!
In total I had a 56lb, 52lb, 48lb, 45lb & 38lb mirrors, 52lb sturgeon and 15 other Grass and Common carp ranging from 17lb to 23lb.
Thanks to Mehdi and Carolyn for making our week at Laroussi so special. They really did go out of their way to do anything to help us.
Thanks also to Angling Lines for setting the whole thing up and placing us with another angler and his son from sunny B

69.12 mirror for 15 year old Chris Tsourou..., 1st Aug
We reached Laroussi on the 24th July 2010. The weather was very hot so we set all our kit out and got comfortable before we even considered casting any lines. After marking out our spots we began baiting with the hemp, Laroussi parti mix and four different types of hook baits; Halibut Pellets, Mailine Cell Boilies, Quest Rahja Spice and Tiger Nut Boilies.
Two days of baiting & still no sign of a fish. On the 3rd evening the halibut pellet takes off... 1 hour 20 mins later... ping goes the 15lb line! The large Laroussi catfish got away!
Day 4, Rahja Spice takes off. Felt like a good carp, but again another one that got away. Day 4, D rig with Tiger Nut Boilie with sweetcorn pop-up that takes off & in comes a 53lb Sturgeon.
Day 5, D rig with cell boilie bleeps once, stops, same thing again, bleep once, stops. Chris moves closer to rod ready to strike. 3/4 further bleeps, one after the other. Chris lifts his rod which is around 70 yards out on a gravel patch with about 6/7 kilos of cell boiles baited out over the last 4/5 days. Funniest thing is that Chris turns round to me and says “Dad, it’s only a small one”.
An hour later and Chris is waist high in water and still no sign of the carp. I ask “Chris, how small you reckon it is then?” Out of breath he turns round with the biggest grin I've ever seen! 10 minutes later and the carp is in the net. There was a quiet silence... just Dad and Chris looking at each other in disbelief; nearly a 70 pounder, a lifetime fish caught by a 15 year old... where do we go from here?
Dad needs a new fishing partner... but to Laroussi & Angling Lines, thanks for a lifetime memory and we cannot wait to go back!
Stavros Tsourou {dad} Chris Tsourou {son} and Ex angling partner!
