Season Starts with A Big Splash!!!, 1st May

What a brilliant start to the season; a second 40+ fish has been banked here at La Gléhias just eight days after the first!

First off, Roger Hemming sets a new lake record with a 43lb 10oz Mirror on the 19th of April, and now another mirror has come out at a staggering 43lb Caught by James Penfare of the Penfare Party.

Amazingly, just two mornings after this, Simon (also from the Penfare Party) managed to land a 39lb 7oz mirror from the reeds. To make the fishing a little easier for some of our younger anglers, we stocked in a batch of low to mid 20’s last summer, but this seems to have had little effect on our current average weights which are well and truly up around the 30lb mark at the moment, with almost every other fish out being a 30lb+ showing fish weights have rocketed over the winter.

It’s also been nice to see anglers and fish alike have been basking in the roasting heat recently and making the most of the BBQ at the lakes while leaving the rods baited in position for the big Carp.

As well as the Carp coming out heavy, we have seen what we believe to be our smallest Catfish set a new Lake Record of 55lb 2oz; we would love to see what the biggest one has done if anyone can manage to land it please!!!

Love is in the air!, 1st May

This week here at la Gléhias as the temperatures soar to around 30 degrees, the fish have begun to get a little amorous!

At the same time, Chris & Emma Noyce celebrate their 2nd wedding anniversary with their friends Mark, Wayne & Katie. Even with the carp going for it hammer and tongs, they have still managed to winkle out around 13 fish to 32lb.

Congratulations Chris & Emma on your Anniversary.

Catch Recording, 1st Apr

Thanks to one of our anglers excellent catch recording, here is an example of how the fishing can be in April.

During their week's fishing, they had to complete with an abundance of tadpoles in the shallows, and as the week went on, the tadpole supply was slowly depleted and the fish moved into deeper water to look for food which can be seen from the following. The order of anglers on the bank from the reeded shallow end to the deep end was Dave, Roger, Paul, Graham and his son Mattie, and finally Des.

18th - Dave 05:40 Mirror 22lb, Roger 14:07 Common 36lb, Roger 15:10 Common 23lb 2oz, Roger 16:18 Mirror 33lb,  Roger 17:15 Grass 8lb,  Dave 19:20 Mirror 29lb 2oz, Dave 23:20 Common 18lb.

19th - Roger 02:00 Mirror 43lb 10oz, Dave 13:00 Mirror 25lb 7oz, Dave 13:00 Common 21lb 7oz, Roger 16:55 Mirror 32lb, Roger 17:50 Grass 15lb 10oz.

20th - Roger 08:25 Mirror 28lb 10oz, Des 12:20 Mirror 33lb 3oz, Dave 16:30 Common 36lb, Roger 21:25 Mirror 36lb, Roger 22:50 Common 35lb.

21st - Paul 01:00 Common 7lb,  Roger 13:25 Mirror 22lb,  Dave 18:30 Mirror 31lb.

22nd - Des 03:55 Cat 55lb 2oz,  Paul 11:25 Grass 13lb 10oz,  Mattie 22:45 Common 8lb 10oz.

23rd - Des 02:25 Mirror 35lb,  Graham 02:35 Mirror 32lb 4oz,  Paul 09:15 Mirror 33lb 8oz,  Graham 10:03 Mirror 25lb 2oz.

As well as the landed fish, several were lost including a possible three or four takes from the Cats.

All in all, I’m sure you’ll agree, a cracking weeks fishing!

New Lake Record Catfish Set by Des Chapman - 55lb 2oz!!!, 1st Apr

At ten past four this morning (22nd April 2010) I was awoken by the dulcet tones of the wife calling “LEE! LEE! PHONE! CATFISH!! PHONE!! LEE!!! CATFISH!!!”.

I leapt out of bed and grabbed the receiver - “Hello?”. Sure enough, there on the other end of the line was party leader Des telling me he had a Cat on the bank!

It had been a long time coming for Des as he and the fat cat had danced on several occasions during the week but had been snapped off before managing to land the lump. Des (aka Master Yoda) Chapman’s left rod initially tore off from the Barbeque Corner at around 01:00am, but the feisty Cat snapped him off around the sluice taking his end tackle and luncheon meat with it! By 03:20am, Des and the giant tadpole were dancing again, but this time he did manage to battle the beast to the bank for a much anticipated photo shoot.

The Cat came in on Des’s right hand rod which was baited with Quest’s Pineapple Crush. However, on the bank it became apparent that the silly moggy had amazingly managed to blow out the boilie and attach the swivel still hanging from its mouth from the earlier take onto the size 4 hook attached to the bait!

At 55lb 2oz, this beats the current lake record by 2lb 2oz which has stood for the past two years!!!

Well done Des!!!
