Once… Twice… Three Times a Winner Wendy!, 1st Aug

Here for the week with Husband Steve and children, Ryan (14), Shana (11) and little cutie two year old Harvey, mother of four and East Kent Trim Supplies Administrator Wendy Calthorpe goes back to Tunbridge-Wells at the end of the week with another bottle of La Gléhias wine, complete with bespoke label detailing the record breaking catch, to add to her collection!! Having briefly held the Ladies Lake Record Common back in August 2011, Wendy returned to swipe the title back from reigning champion Jenny Handley with a beautiful 37lb 8oz beast. Wendy said “It put up a great fight!” and landing the lump was made even more difficult for poor Wendy having been in a ‘pellet’ accident only two days before; sliding over on some strategically ‘dropped’ ground bait, and nearly ending up in the lake; putting her back out and leaving her a bit twingey. Husband Steve is still very apologetic about the incident and has promised to be more ‘careful’ in the future. The Record Breaking Common came in from the Irises over in the shallows this Wednesday afternoon at around 16:00 on a half and half Tutti-Crunch and STC Steamie over a bed of maize and Tutti-crunch pellet; a concoction thought up by Shana as the record was in fact broken on her rod. This fabulous fishing family have banked over 500lb of fish this week so far, including a 38lb 6oz Mirror, a 35lb 12oz Common, and a 30lb 2oz Mirror for Steve, a 30lb 6oz Mirror for Wendy, and a 32lb Mirror for Ryan, plus numerous fish of 20lb+ and 4 Catfish - all taken on a mix of Tutti-Crunch and STC Steamies on the carp rods and 20mm Halibut pellet on the cat rods with a hint of the Calthorpe’s secret ingredient - Garlic Oil!...not bad going by anyone’s standards, especially when you consider all have been in the daytime as no nights have been fished, and they still have the rest of the week to go! Wendy also still holds the Ladies Lake Record Grass Carp, which she got the ball rolling on last year. Well done (again!) Wendy! You are a star!! ☆

Jenny Jumps for Joy!!, 3rd Jul

Jenny Handley here for the week with husband Ted, was not content with over 196lbs of fish between them in the first 24 hours, nor was she happy with another 365lb+ fish over the next couple of days!

Texacom PCB Inspector Jenny from Rossendale Lancashire wasn’t going to be happy until she’d broken the Ladies Lake Record Mirror….and so she did! The record was broken at 08:30 this Wednesday, coming out from under the Gorse directly opposite the boat, the gorgeous 36lb 12ozer is also Jen’s personal best Mirror; bringing the total captures weight so far to 599lbs!!! And it’s still only Wednesday!

Ted has also smashed both his Common and Mirror PBs; now standing at 35lb 8oz and 32lb 8oz respectively.

Jen confirmed that Garlic is turning out to be the seasoning of the week as all fish bar one came in on Kent Particles Garlic Boilies (a special order) on a background of Mainlines New Grange and Kent Particles Crab and Spicy Sausage boilies.

Well done Jenny!!

Roz Reaches for Rods Resulting in Ruptured Records!!!, 19th Sep

Nottingham based Macmillan Nurse Roz Bexon, here for the week with hubby Neil and son Chris, managed to bust not one but two La Gléhias Ladies Lake Records!!

At around 23:30 Monday evening, Roz’s middle rod ripped off from the shallow end of the Gorse Bank where it meets the reeds and landed herself her first record breaking fish of the week; the gorgeous 30lb 8oz Common was taken on a T1 with Peach & Pepper pop-up snowman rig.

The second record breaker came midday the following afternoon from a hollow in the bushes midway along the Gorse bank; this time a pretty Mirror coming in at 36lb, again on a T1 but this time tipped with a bit of plastic corn.

Roz’s husband Neil has had 15 fish to 35lb this week and son Chris has had a whopping 143lb of catfish and carp up to 31lb+ this week too!

Well done Roz!

Wendy does it Again!!!, 12th Aug

Having briefly held the title of Ladies Lake Record Common last year, the lovely Nurse and mother of four, Wendy Calthorpe was back to bag some bubbly - well white wine anyway! Here for the week with hubby Steve and daughters Danni and Shana, and sons Ryan and the adorable Harvey, the family from Tunbridge-Wells arrived Saturday 11th but decided not to get their rods wet until the Sunday morning when Wendy winkled out not one but two Grassies about an hour apart, kick starting the Ladies Grass Carp Record.

The first Grassie to come out, a 16lb’er came in at 11:30 and the second, a 12lb’er was seen bankside around 12:30; both captures came on the same rod and both times it was Quest Baits Rahja Spice that got the job done.

Even with family days out and inclement weather, the Calthorpes have banked 22 fish to 34lb 8oz including one of our baby Catfish caught by Ryan at 10lb, and Wendy and Ryan both have new PB's of 29lb!

Well done Wendy! It’s been a pleasure having you and the family here this week, enjoy the wine!
