Lake Record Grassie!!!, 18th Apr
Tom Sharpe, the window fitter from Northampton, here for the week with dad Kevin and pal Nobby Chamberlain, managed to winkle out a 22lb Grass Carp, not only giving him a PB fish, but breaking the previous record by a whopping 4lb! Tom has also caught his PB Catfish here this week at 52lb! He and his party have had several Cats on the bank including 54lb, 52lb and a 46lber, as well as lots of cracking la Gléhias lumps to 38lb!
For the record, the stunning Grassie came in from the Gorse bank, about 40’ up from the BBQ Corner on a half Cell and half Pineapple pop-up boilie, popped up about 1”, at 08h30 on Tuesday the 14th April 2015.
Well done Tom!

Lilli-pad Islands, 6th Apr
After repairing the sluice on Lake Lauren back in 2005, the water level rose around 7”, which is exactly the result we wanted. A knock-on effect of this however has been that most of the reeds in the shallows slowly drowned, and what was left have been uprooted by the big carp.
We’ve thought long and hard about what to do to replace such an important holding area for the fish, and after the success of the island build on Lake William back in 2013, we decided to do something similar in what was the reed corner. We nabbed some more tyres from our local garage (thanks James Barrington :)) and having decided on a layout, set to it.
Planting up of the underwater flowerbeds consisted of replanting the remaining reeds and grasses, and a couple of trees and other plants, but the biggest feature will hopefully be the water-lilies kindly donated from friends in the fisher-folk community - Keith and Barry Smith – Cheers chaps!
We have tried several times in the past to introduce water-lilies to the lakes, but every attempt has been scuppered by the local wildlife, big carp or anglers, and we had all but given up on the idea. We are taking every precaution with these precious rhizomes; wrapped in chain link mesh and weighed down with heavy stone and slate, all tucked safely into the middle of a sunken tyre. We are very confident this time around.
The water-lilies were grown from root cuttings taken from Friar Park – the home of the former Beatle, George Harrison. We are looking forward to seeing them flower, they promise to be quite beautiful :)
