About the Lake
The 7-acre gravel pit, discovered in 2020 by owner Constant, offers a very natural lake but with practical features such as well-designed swims, excellent access and a convenient facilities cabin.
Both gravel-based double swims allow space for two anglers to set up comfortably for the week. These are well positioned on either end of the lake, with defined boundaries that give each swim half the lake. Vehicle access is very good, with each swim having their own entrance and enough room to park directly behind your swim for the week.
Groups of three anglers, booking the lake exclusively, may also choose to fish together from the same bank at swim 2 - this offers a good social set up.
Please note that swim 2 is located approximately 400m from the facilities cabin, and you can either walk or drive to and from. Swim 1 is approximately 100m.
The lake has depths of up to 3m, with an average depth of around 1.5m. Water levels may vary throughout the year, swim 1 in particular is multi-level to accommodate this. The lake bottom is generally soft, interspersed with sandy patches, clay patches and gravel banks, offering a variety of features to explore.
You'll find a number of raised underwater mounds in front of swim 1 which are good features to fish to. Swim 2 is more open water and margin fishing. You'll find a depth map printed in the facilities to help you.
We'd describe the lake as snaggy with trees and branches to be aware of when choosing your spots - it is deliberately left to feel wild and natural and so suits anglers that appreciate this. Weed is not a concern here.
Anglers will be pleased to know that there are no known issues with poisson chat. As with many French lakes, crayfish are present, more so in the hotter months. It’s best to be prepared just in case, we recommend you take tiger nuts or use plastic baits - you can find lots of information here for combatting crayfish in France. With these simple measures in place, they should cause you no problem.
You choose your swim in advance at Grandes Cimes so you'll need to decide which swim you'd like when you book. Make sure to check out the lake map . All swims must be booked by two anglers, or a single angler can book but will unfortunately be charged at the double swim rate.
There is a gravel factory in the vicinity of the lake and although this is out of sight, it can sometimes be heard if the wind is blowing towards the lake. Swim 1 is closer to this and the road behind, swim 2 is further away if you are particularly sensitive to noise.
